A Remarkable Story of Giving

Chris and Trish Morck, friends of House of Dreams, were contacted a few months ago by friends and members of their home church outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Their friends were coming to Ecuador with another family and they wanted to bring donations for children that were needy. They had written to several organizations they found on the internet, but had received no responses.

Trish and Chris suggested they get in touch with our organization and about six weeks later they arrived with 400 pounds of donations! Eight suitcases stuffed full of everything from clothes, blankets, and shoes to toys, books, a small DVD player, first aid kits and tooth brushes, soap, shampoo….well the list goes on and on! And so much of it is brand new with tags still attached!

Our benefactors? The families of Sarah and Richard Forrester and Britta and Edwin McCarthy, (who so generously got out the word, made collections and lugged all the suitcases down here), and all of their friends and congregational members. It’s so encouraging to know that there are still such generous people on our planet.

We are currently making an inventory of each item and have assigned Rachel the task of contacting other NGOs who are working with street children to come get items their children and organization can use. We will do our best to get things distributed as rapidly as possible and get a list of the recipients off to Sarah and Britta so they will have them by the time they get back home to Lexington, MA., as they are touring our beautiful country at the moment.

We wish these kind families wonderful and safe journeys, and send our many thanks, again, to Sarah and Britta for all their hard work and to all their friends who so graciously donated to the cause. And, of course, let’s not forget to thank, with all our heart, Trish and Chris Morck, without whom none of this would have happened!†

An Exciting Second Quarter

We’ve had so much happen during the second quarter, I hope don’t forget to tell you everything!

We are so very grateful for your support and interest in what we are trying to accomplish for the homeless children of the streets in Quito. Any ideas, suggestions, or contacts you might have to help us reach our goals are always welcome, as this is only a tiny part of the on-going global effort to end poverty and hunger in our world.

Blessings to all who care and help.

Secretary

Our First Facility

After nine months of searching the city of Quito, we found an excellent location for our first of many projects. Even better, the owners are wonderful people that were willing to work with our limited funds and have temporarily waved many of our initial fees, participated in our fund raising efforts, and introduced us to important contacts to help us with our first financial-sustainability project, a day care center! We absolutely could not have asked for more….but we found much more anyway, in the person of our new volunteer Administrative Assistant. But that’s another story!

The new facility is located in the Quito Tenis area, just three blocks west of the Ave. Brasil and Ave. America con-vergence.

It’s an old family home, with lovely gardens, three bedrooms, 2.5 baths, very large salon, smaller area we’ll use for an indoor soft play area, a huge kitchen, and service quarters we can lease out for additional income.

We’ve done a little painting, just for fun, and have carpeted a large portion of the space so our little ones won’t hurt themselves if they fall. We’re also in the process of glassing in the downstairs carport so we can use it for an art and musical instrument room.

We will be accepting children ages birth to 4 years, so we have also furnished a nursery. We have three cribs and a beautiful cradle. We still have items to purchase, but have had linens and infant toys donated.
